Jiang Liu is the Associate Director of the Chinese Flagship Program at University of Minnesota.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies + Lancaster University Program, master’s degree in Speech Science from Edinburgh University and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Kansas.
Liu is a member of the American Council on Foreign Language Teaching (ACTFL), Chinese Language Teacher Association (CLTA), and the Linguistic Society of America (LSA).
His research interests include phonology, phonetics and psycholinguistics specializing in Second Language Acquisition. He worked as research assistant for two National Science Foundation projects that studied the phonology and speech processing of Chinese. He is currently working on ways to harness technology to improve the learning efficiency of American learners of L2 Chinese.
Liu authored and co-authored several journal articles and conference proceedings in the field of linguistics, and plans to work with the Confucius Institute to develop new education programs for Chinese Immersion School students to maintain and refine their Chinese skills.
